Health Benefits
My husband and I will be moving to Panama City in September of this year. I'm wondering what US retirees in Panama do about getting medicine through the drug benefits component of Medicare, especially if they are on regular medication. I'll be eligible for Medicare later this year and plan to return to the U.S. at least once a year for checkups and maintain health insurance in Panama for emergencies. Can you share your experiences with health benefits, especially medicines? Toni Clewell

Hi! We purchase Matt's medicine throught various pharmacies down here. We are pensionado and we get up to 20% discount. Everything is out of pocket since they don't recognize Medicare/Medicaid down here.

After we had been here 6 months Matt saw a doctor down here and he cut his medications in half compared to the States. He is no longer taking any arthritis medications for his wrists, elbows, or knees. His high blood pressure is at 110/75 with half the medication he was taking in the states. His diabetes is under better control along with the lowering of his cholestrol. I hope this answers your questions, please email me from my contact page. I have additional info.
